Northern South Dakota has it challenges when looking for skilled and trained manufacturing employees. The geographic location can be are a hindrance to younger candidates who want to be closer to larger metropolitan areas, and some seasoned employees are loyal to their current employer and it is difficult to tear them away. With the oil boom in North Dakota, many electrical and mechanical maintenance people left the area to take the higher-paying jobs the oil field offers. One would think with the recent slowdown in the oil field, there would be a surplus of these types of individuals. However, that is not the case, as many of them have returned closer to home all over the U.S. We recently were able to recruit an industrial electrician for one of our clients located in north central South Dakota. Their efforts were not turning up qualified candidates. After some work and creative searching, we were able to land a candidate with all the bells and whistles they were looking for.
